An Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Blended Learning Using a Virtual Learning Environment in Support of Computer Aided Engineering

This work provides an account and evaluation of the development and integration of internet -based instructional resources and a managed learning environment. They were used to enhance the teaching and learning of computer-aided engineering applications in support of engineering undergraduate courses. They provide detailed instruction in the design of 3-Dimensional engineering part-models. The user is guided through creation, analysis of the structural integrity and subsequent planning of the process operations required to manufacture such part-models. Additional internet-based learning resources, in the form of self-assessment tutorials and quizzes, were developed to enable the students to gauge student understanding at staged points through the tutorial and laboratory sessions. Moreover, this work describes strategies used to encourage the use of the managed learning environment along with the internet-based tutorials. It outlines an evaluation of the Managed Learning Environment by the students with a view toward setting this cohort"s skills in context via an evaluation over a two year period since its implementation.

이 연구는 학습발달의 검증과 평가, 인터넷 기반 수업자료의 통합과 관리학습 환경에 대한 검증과 평가를 제공하며, 엔지니어링 학부과정 지원의 CAE 어플리케이션에 대한 교수-학습의 질을 강화할 목적으로 수행되었다. 이러한 검증과 평가는 3차원 엔지니어링 부품형상의 설계가 상세하게 지도되도록 하며, 수업 참여자인 사용자가 캐드를 사용하여 완성시킨 형상을 캐드-캠으로 가져갔을 때 구조적인 일관성이 있는지 분석하고 이울러 설계된 부품형상을 실제로 제조할 경우에 요구되는 가공기계의 운용과정에 대한 후속계획까지도 분석하도록 유도한다. 본 연구에서는 학습평가를 자기평가 형태나 문답식 퀴즈 형태를 취하면서 학습자가 자기학습과 오프라인 형태의 실기에서 매 국면 마다 학습 이해도에 대한 성취도를 매겨보는 것이 가능하도록 부가 인터넷 기반 학습소스를 발전시켰다. 더욱이 본 연구에서는 관리학습 환경과 더불어 인터넷 기반 학습교재의 이용을 촉진시킬 목적으로 구사된 전략이 기술되어 있다. 이러한 전략은 수업 참여집단의 역량과 더불어 학생이 관리학습 환경을 평가하는 것에 있는데 학습자의 기량 향상을 향하여 이 연구가 수행된 이래 2년간에 걸쳐 평가를 거쳤다는 점이 고무적이라 하겠다.
