In recent years, the Mobile Ad Hoc NETworks (MANET) has attracted the research community especially when discussing routing protocols such as Proactive, Reactive and position-based routing. Subsequently, the primary objective of routing protocols is to transmit the data packets from the source until it reaches the destination. Identifying the best routing protocol is a common problem in Ad Hoc networks. This paper presents a performance evaluation study of proactive; Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), reactive; Ad Hoc on-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) and position-based routing; Location-Aided Routing (LAR1). The performance evaluation study was performed using the QualNet v5.1 simulator. In addition, the performance of those routing protocols was examined based on the throughput, average end-toend delay, average jitter and energy consumption metrics. This paper depicts that OSPF and AODV have the best performance among the number of packets and number of nodes tested protocols.
