In the 2022 Revised Curriculum, ‘School-designed Autonomous Hours (SDAH)’ was introduced in elementary and middle schools to implement and operate new subjects or activities that were not presented in the national curriculum. As SDAH, which will be applied in 2025, is an unfamiliar curriculum policy to be implemented in schools, there are concerns that it will bring about many difficulties and confusion in the process of implementing SDAH. Therefore, this study conducted a case study targeting Research Schools that piloted SDAH; examined the perception of SDAH, characteristics of organization and operation of SDAH, and difficulties; and drew implications for support plans. This case study targeted a total of eight Curriculum Research Schools. Various documents were collected and analyzed, and interviews with 54 people, including 22 teachers, 16 students, and 16 parents, were conducted. The research results were analyzed by dividing the perception of SDAH, design method, organization method, operation contents of SDAH, and the difficulties faced in SDAH. Based on the results of the case study, this study proposes a support plan for SDAH.
2022 개정 교육과정에서는 학교 교육과정 자율화의 일환으로 초·중학교에서 국가교육과정에 제시되지않은 새로운 과목이나 활동을 개설·운영하는 ‘학교자율시간’이 도입되었다. 2025년부터 적용되는 학교자율시간은 실제로 실행된 사례가 많지 않으며 학교에서 실행하기에는 다소 낯선 교육과정 정책이기 때문에, 학교자율시간 편성·운영 과정에서 많은 혼란과 어려움이 제기될 수 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 학교자율시간을 시범운영한 연구학교를 대상으로 사례 연구를 실시하여, 학교자율시간에 대한 인식, 설계 방식, 편성·운영 방식, 어려움을 살펴보고 이로부터 지원의 시사점을 도출하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 초등학교 4개교, 중학교 4개교, 총 8개교의 교육과정 연구학교를 대상으로 사례연구를 수행하면서, 각종 자료를수집하는 한편, 교사(22명), 학생(16명), 학부모(16명), 총 54명을 대상으로 면담 조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 학교자율시간에 대한 인식, 학교자율시간의 설계 방식, 학교자율시간 편성 방식과 운영 내용, 그리고 학교자율시간 실행의 어려움으로 나누어 논의하였다. 본 연구에서는 사례 연구의 결과를 토대로 학교자율시간의 이해를 돕기 위한 명확한 안내와, 학교자율시간 설계에 대한 안내, 학교의 맥락과 필요에 따른 다양한 편성·운영 방식의 강조, 학교자율시간의 실행에 대한 모니터링의 강화를 제안하였다.
