퀴어문화축제 언론보도의 구조적 토픽 모델링 분석: 2000년부터 2023년까지의 언론보도를 중심으로

Analyzing the Coverage of Queer Culture Festival Using Structural Topic Modeling: Focus on Analysis of the Coverage From 2000 to 2023

This study aims to identify the themes of media coverage of queer culture festivals and how they have changed over time. We collected 4,191 reports on the festival between 2000 and 2023, when the festival was first held, through the news big data platform BIGKINDS, and applied structural topic modeling analysis to identify themes and changes in themes over time. The topics were divided into festival-related topics such as ‘Daegu Queer Culture Festival’, ‘Seoul Queer Culture Festival Venue’, ‘Queer Culture Festival Site’, ‘Incheon Queer Culture Festival’, and ‘Queer Film Festival’ that are directly related to the festival, and topics that are close to LGBTQ+ discourse such as ‘transgender’, ‘LGBTQ+ related policies/laws’, ‘anti-homophobia and Christianity’, ‘politicians’ remarks’, and ‘media and LGBTQ+’. In terms of timing, we observed some spikes in the frequency of festival-related topics around the time of events/accidents, while LGBTQ+ discourse topics showed little difference in timing for topics about parties, but increased frequency for ‘Politicians’ remarks" and ‘Anti-Homosexuality and Christianity’ around specific events. The significance of this study is that it specifically identifies the themes of media coverage of queer cultural festivals and examines how the meaning and diversity of the festivals are represented in the media.

본 연구는 퀴어문화축제를 다룬 언론보도의 주제가 무엇이며, 시기에 따른 양상이 어떻게 변화했는지 확인하고자 진행됐다. 뉴스 빅데이터 플랫폼 빅카인즈를 통해 퀴어문화축제가 처음 개최됐던 2000년부터 2023년 사이의 4,191건의 퀴어문화축제 언론보도를 수집했으며 주제와 시기별 주제의 양상을 확인하기 위해 구조적 토픽 모델링 분석을 적용했다. 주제는 축제와 직접적으로 관련된 ‘대구퀴어문화축제’, ‘서울퀴어문화축제 개최장소’, ‘퀴어문화축제 현장’, ‘인천퀴어문화축제’, ‘퀴어영화제’ 등 축제 관련 주제와 ‘트랜스젠더’, ‘성소수자 관련 정책/법’, ‘반동성애와 기독교’, ‘정치인 발언’, ‘미디어와 성소수자’ 등 성소수자 담론 주제로 구분되었다. 시기별 양상을 살펴보면 축제와 관련된 주제의 경우 사건/사고가 있었던 시기에 주제 발현확률이 급증하는 양상이 일부 관찰됐으며, 성소수자 담론 주제를 살펴보면 일부 주제는 시기에 따른 차이가 거의 없었지만 ‘정치인 발언’이나 ‘반동성애와 기독교’, ‘트랜스젠더’의 경우 특정 사건이 있었던 시기에 주제 발현수준이 상승하는 양상을 보였다. 본 연구는 퀴어문화축제 언론보도의 주제를 구체적으로 파악하고, 축제가 갖는 의미와 다양성이 언론을 통해 어떤 내용으로 재현되고 있는지 살펴보았다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
