The aviation industry requires continuous innovation due to globalization and increasing competition. Within a rapidly evolving technological environment, the industry has consistently adopted innovative solutions to enhance customer service, operational efficiency, and employee training. This study explores how the aviation sector utilizes metaverse technologies, primarily VR and AR. From a customer service perspective, the metaverse facilitates virtual airport experiences, virtual travel simulations, personalized assistance services, service simulations, and improvements in passenger services. From an operational optimization perspective, metaverse technologies are being applied to aircraft maintenance optimization, airport operations efficiency, congestion mitigation, flight route optimization, and fuel savings. In terms of employee training, metaverse applications extend to pilot training, flight attendant training, maintenance technician training, and ground staff and airport operations training. Despite its potential, the implementation of metaverse technology in the aviation industry presents several challenges. High initial infrastructure costs and data security concerns are significant barriers, and the aviation sector’s stringent security regulations may impose restrictions on metaverse platform operations. While the metaverse presents numerous opportunities for the aviation industry such as enhancing customer service, optimizing operations, and revolutionizing employee training, its adoption requires a cautious and strategic approach. Addressing technological, security, and legal challenges, as well as enhancing user acceptance, is essential for the successful implementation of metaverse applications.
