Cross-border Computer-mediated Communication in Elementary School Teacher Education

This study investigated the Korean elementary pre-service teachers’ experiences while participating in synchronous CMC with Taiwanese students. Skype was used to connect Korean elementary pre-service teachers and Taiwanese students who were studying English in Taiwan. The primary data sources included recordings of these Skype conversations and the pre-service teachers’ reflection papers after participating in the Skype activity. The findings indicated that the first-hand experiences of talking to foreigners via Skype provided the pre-service teachers with the opportunities to understand such technology tools as one of the instructional tools that they can use in their future classrooms.
