Objectives: This study applied a stress and coping model to understand one of the most frequent forms of problematic media use among adolescents, cyberbullying. Methods: Using data from the Korean Youth Panel Survey, the researchers found three major sources of stress for adolescents: parents (abusive behavior), school (academic stress), and friends (bullying victimization); these were seen as predictors of cyberbullying. The researchers also tested an important intra-personal factor, anger management, which could influence the association between life stressors and adolescents’ bullying behavior. Anger management has not been previously investigated in regards to gender differences. Potential mediation and moderation roles of poor anger management were tested. Results: The three life stressors were significantly associated with cyberbullying, and the links between all three and cyberbullying were mediated by adolescents’ poor anger management. Gender differences were found in two paths in the model. Anger management problems were not found to have a moderating role. Conclusions: Results were discussed in regards to the context and cultural background of Korea. Implications for policy and future research were suggested.
