The introduction of pianos and wind instruments to Daegu occurred from 1827 to 1919, during the Samil(3·1) Independence Movement of Korea. This period coincided during the colonization of the Japanese Imperialism period in Korea. The period of Jeonghae-Gyoran(1827) forced many musicians to flee the military’s forced repression within the Catholic Church and escape to Daegu, where the high-altitude ring-of-mountains protected Daegu from invaders throughout Korea’s history, and where many refuges lived in safety.
