In this psychoanalytic study on the folktales of Korean butcher, the authors tried to ravel the unconscious motivation of the stories as well as symbolic meaning of the cattle. The cattle has symbolic meanings of father, phallus, sexual power and guilt. The stories could be analyzed to be motivated by oedipal conflict, manifesting fantastic realization of incest, hostility toward father and thereby desire to be punished. For the resolution of the conflict, penance and cultivation were emphasized in term of “Hyao” (filial piety)
