The ninety schizophrenic patients who had been admitted to Wonkwang University Neuropsychiatric Hospital from January to June 1990,were divided into two groups by GAF score of 40. Both groups were rated on self rating scales, such as SDS, STAI-I and SCL-90-R, and objective rating scales, such as HDS, HAS, BPRS, HPRS and EPSS. In order to compare the psychotic group with the recovering group, the authors estimated with level of depression and anxiety in both groups. The results were as follow : 1 ) For the depression, two groups didn’t show significant difference on all the self-rating scales, but the psychotic group was rated significantly more depressed than the recovering group on the most of objective rating scales(BPRS * DEP, HDS) (p<0.01). 2) For the anxiety, the psychotic group was significantly more anxious than the recovering group on the most of self-rating scale(STAI-I)and objective rating sclae(BPRS * ANX, HAS)(p〈 0.01) 3) In the correlation of the GAF and depression scores, the lower GAF scores were, the m ore significant depression (SCL-90-R • DEP ; r — —0.20, HDS ; r = — 0.64, BPRS • DEP ; r = -0.41). 4) In the correlation of the GAF and anxiety scores, the lower GAF scores were, the more significant anxiety on the all of 5 scales(r= —0.18 to —0.62). 5) The patients who considered to be suffering from real depression, that was, those who have 50 score or more on SDS, or 30 score or more on HDS were 35.6% and 16.7 of all subjects, respectively.
