We report a case of trichotillomania with mild mental retardation whose characteristic symptomisis a compulsion to pull-out strands of hair from her scalp. It has been known that clinical symptoms of trichotillomania are closely related with both obsessive-compulsive disorder and impulse control disorder. This patient had been prescribed a combination of clomipramine, an antidepressant known to be effective in obsessivecompulsive disorder, and carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant proved to be effective in impulse control disorder. Uncontrollable impulsive acting-out and hair pulling behavior improved without any noticeable side effects. It seems likely that a combined treatm ent of clomipramine and carbamazepine is helpful for the symptoms of trichotillomania
