The purpose of this study was to investigate the cognitive and emotional disturbances of patients with lateralized and localized cerebral lesions by KWIS (Korean Wechsker Intelligence Scale) and MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). The cerebral damaged groups consisted of 50 male patients ; 14 of left frontal lobe damaged (LF) group, 15 of right frontal lobe damaged (RF) group, 13 of left temporal lobe damaged (LT) group and 8 of right temporal lobe damaged (RT) group. The non-brain-damaged (N) group consisted of 50 neurotic patients. The results were as follows • 1) LF and RF groups In KWIS, these two groups showed nearly equal level in Verbal IQ and no significant difference in Performance IQ. In the validity scales of MMPI, both groups showed similar pattern. In the clinical scales of MMPI, LF group showed mainly thought-disturbed and partly emotionally disturbed tendency, and RF group showed the tendency mainly emotional disturbance and partly thought disturbance. 2) LT and RT groups In verbal IQ, LT group showed more defect than RT group. There was no significant difference in Performance IQ, but generally LT group scored lower than RT group. In validity scales of MMPI, Rt group showed normal pattern but LT group showed severe “/ \ ” pattern. In clinical scales of MMPI, RT group showed primarily schizophrenic-like thought disturbance and secondarily emotionally disturbed tendency. Therefore, LT group had the severest psychopathology. Finally, LF and LF groups showed mainly verbal dysfunction and tendency for thought disturbance and RF and RT groups showed mainly non-verbal dysfunction and tendency for emotional disturbance.
