A study of Sex Chromatin among the Patients in Forensic Psychiatry Institute

  • 2

This study was done to evaluate the relation between chromosomal abnormality and aggression or specific psychiatric disorders. The subjects were 441 inpatients, who were admitted to Forensic Psychiatry Institute from November 1987 to June 1988. The buccal smear for screening and the karyotyping for confirmative diagnosis were done with coperation of the Dept, of Anatomy, College of Medicine, Korea University. The results were summarized as follows; 1) Among 75 female patients, chromosomal abnormality was not seen but among 366 male patients, one had the karyotype 47,XXY (1 per 366; 0.27%). 2) This results were not significantly different from the previous reports which were done among the general population and newborn infants but the statistical significance of this result has some limitation due to small sample size. 3) In our opinion, this results may not support the hypothesis of the relation of aggression- chromosomal abnormality. 4) A 26-year old schizophrenic male who committed homicide, and was found to have 47, XXY karyotype was described in the form of case presentation.
