The authors examined the relationship between school failures and various factors, such as personal factor and intrafamilial characteristics, and made the development of school failure prediction scale, thus identifyting students who have high school failure propensity in the early stage and providing coping strategies for them. Samples were gathered from 76 adolescent psychiatric inpatients including 39 men and 37 wemen. Among them, 36 cases had school failures and 40 cases had non-school failures. The data were statistically analysed with chi-square test and F-test using SPSS PC program. Summary of the major findings were as follows: 1) The fathers of patients who showed school failure tend to be more often Christian in religion than control group. 2) The adolescent psychiatric inpatients who have failed to attend school tend to feel their fathers as more adult-centered, harsh, and punitive, and their mothers as more mistrustful to them than control group. 3) The adolescent psychiatric inpatients who have failed to attend school tend to have worse adjustment at school and home than control group. 4) The adolescent psychiatric inpatients who have failed to attend school tend to complain more frequently perspiration, insomnia among SAS scale, nightmare, indecesiveness among SDS and bad companionship, lack of guilt, and poor impulse control among DAPS scale than control group. 5) The adolescent psychiatric inpatients who have failed to attend school tend to commit the problem behaviors in the home and school such as truancy, runaway, and fighting more frequently than control group.
