Clinical Application of Combined Self-Rating Anxiety Depression Scale

To evaluate the applicability of Combined Self-Rating Anxiety Depression Scale(CSADS), the authors studied 4000 control subjects and 202 patients(100 anxiety disoredr, 63 dysthymic disorder and 39 somatization disorde) at the Department of Psychiatry of Yeung Nam University Hospital from April, 1988 to April, 1989. The authors collected the reports of CSADS and applied t-test on anxiety-depression scores in order to compare them between two groups. The results are as follows; 1) There was significant difference in the mean average of total scores between patient group and control group ; patient group scored 61.48± 14.99 while control group scored 37.51± 10.06(P〈0. 001). 2) The anxiety-depression scores relating to the items of fatigue, mental disintegration, sleep disturbance, dizziness and bodyaches and pains were relatively higher in patients group, while sleep disturbance, fatigue, apprehension, anxiousness and crying spells were relatively higher in control group. 3) The mean average of total scores of anxiety, dysthymic and somatization disorder were 63.05土 15.19, 62.78± 15.54 and 55.38± 12.04 respectively. 4) There was no significant difference in the mean average ot total scores between anxiety and dysthymic * anxiety patients scored 63.05± 15.19, dysthymic patients scored 62.78± 15.54. 5) 157 patients(77.7 %) showed seriously higher degree of anxiety-depression scores of 50 or more, while 53 control subjects(l3.2%) showed the same scores.
