Broadening and changing psychotherapeutic technics for the borderline personalities were reviewed. Earlier concept of applying supportive technic appears to have changed to a more analytically oriented expressive type of psychotherapy. The following special issues encountered in treating this severe personality disorder were discussed ; (1) charateristics of their primitive defense mechanisms, (2) characteristics of their transference, (3) problems met with interpretation of their transferences, (4) difficulties of maintaining technical neutrality with them.
