The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of psychodrama on the attitude toward self and others in the 20 hospitalized patients at Seoul National Mental Hospital, who had participated psychodrama as a protagonist from Mar. 27 to June 20, 1986. The “Attitude towad self” (AS) and the “Attitude toward others” (AO)scales of Gibbson were used as a pretreatment and posttreatment measurement. To rule out the effects of other treatment modalities, the results were compared with those from control group. The results were as follows. 1) In magic shop technique, large number of patients presented their own problems more than their environmental or family problems. 2) The change of ‘AS’ and ‘AO,scaling scores after psychodrama had no statistical meaning compared with those from control group. However, in Psychodrama group, significantly many patients showed increase of ‘AO’ scores after psychodrama compared with control group. 3) Right after psychodrama, 80% of patients answered that psychodrama was helpful for them, and the subjective assessment of psychodramatic effects were catharsis, interpersonal skill, spontaneity, self-awareness and guidance in the order. 2 weeks after psychodrama, catharsis was decreased, but self-awareness and insight were increassed more positively.
