For the evaluation of the trend of cerebral lateralization in bipolar disorder, the author surveyed the differences of lateralized cerebral function between 40 bipolar patients (20 males, 20 females) and 40 normal controls (20 males, 20 females) by dichotic listening test. The results were as follows: 1) As to the comparison of total correct answers, normal controls revealed higher scores than bipolar patients in both types of test (F(0.01) 2) As to the comparison of the sex difference between both groups, male normal controls showed higher scores than male bipolar patients(F (0.01) but there is no difference in female. 3) As to the comparison of total correct answers between both ears, the scores in the left ear of normal controls were higher than bipolar patients only in digit test (F (0.01), but there was no difference in the right ear between both groups.
