The authors have studied on the therapeutic effects of 40mg haloperidol intravenous dripping to 19 cases of refractory chronic schizophrenic patients. 53% of them showed moderate to marked improvement in the CGI (Clinical Global Improvement). The responding patients showed significant improvement not only in positive symptoms (hallucination, delusion, formal thought disorder) but also in negative symptoms (alogia, affetive flattening, anhedonia-asociality, avolition-apathy). There were no significant side effects except two cases These results suggest that high dosage haloperidol intravenous dripping method is useful in treating chronic schizophrenics, who have been refractory to oral antipsychotic drugs. of drop-out during haloperiod dripping procedure.
