The author attempted to search the differences which are useful to differential diagnosis between symptoms of anxiety disorder and hyperthyroidism, and tested Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, General Health Questionnaire, Mini-Mental State, Interview items for physiological changes, Tachistoscope, Reaction Time for 30 patients with anxiety disotder and 30 patients with hyperthyroidism. The data were statistically analysed( t- test and discriminant function analysis) and the result were obtained as follows. 1) Patients with hyperthyroidism were lower degree of anxiety, more appetite, hyperdefecation, hot extremities, fewer psychogenic precipitating factors, slower reaction time than patients with anxiety disorder. 2) Each group was discriminated at 96.7%.
