In order to collect baseline data to set up educational guidelines and measures of adolescent’s affective disorder, it was attempted to analyze and evaluate the relationship between blood types and depressive trends. Data were collected through questionnaire survey. Zung’s Self-Rating Depression Scale was administered to 1,869 students from 8 middle and high schools (Seoul 950 cases, Country 919 cases). The collected data were coded by computer. Statistical method employed was chisquare method, and the results of the study was presented below. 1. Among blood types of adolescent students in Korea, O type(30.3^) was most prevalent ones, compared with A type(28.4%), B type (26. S% )f or AB type (14.5%). 2. The most frequent and serious depressive signs, found among adolescent students, were psychological equivalents of depression such as retardation, indecisiveness, confusion, less of libido, ai d emptiness, while physiological equivalents cf depression such as constipation, insomnia, tachycardia, fatigue, or weight loss were fcur.d to be least frequent depressive signs. 3. Among 5 categories of depression, the ideational categories ard the psychomotor activities were significantly different according to their blood types, while the rhythmic disturbances, other physiological disturbances and pervasive affect were found to be insignificant. Particularly total scores of the psychomotor activities were higher in the A type or B type, but were lower in the O type. 4. Of the 20 items of SDS, 5 kinds of depressive signs such as confusion (predictability 1.46%), weight loss (1.42%), depressed mood (0.74%), agitation (0.56%), diurnal variation (0.44%), and personal devaluation (0.41%) hopelessness (0.38%) were found to be significantly different to their blood type. Their detailed findings were summarized as follows: a. The personal devaluation and the hopelessness were more prevalent in the B type or O type in comparision with A type or ABtype. b. The weight loss and the agitation were most frequently observed in the AB type of 4 kinds of blood types, while the confusion was least frequently observed in the AB type. c. The confusion was more frequently observed depressive signs in the A type, B type or O type, while the weight loss and the agitation were less prevalent signs in the Atype, B type or O type in comparision with the ABtype.
