연극제작 과정에서 나타나는 치료적 효과에 관한 연구

The Study on the Therapeutic Effect of Process in Theater Production

이 논문에서는 개인의 자전적인 공연을 통한 변화와 특정 집단의 공동작업을 통한 변화를 통하여 연극예술이 가지는 고유의 치료적 효과에 관하여 논의하고자 한다. 개인의 자전적인 공연은 필자의 무대미술대학원의 졸업 작품으로 만들게 된 “It s my birthday today 라는 작품이다. 이 작품은 개인이 숨겨오고 억눌렀던 과거의 비극적인 경험을 다양한 상징적 이미지와 언어들을 사용하여 하나의 공간에 신화적 구조인 여행의 틀을 사용하여 만든 공연이다. 예술가로서 자신에게 이슈가 되는 내용을 하얀색의 다양한 물건을 통한 상징과 사회적인 약속이 되어있는 도로 표지판의 상징등을 사용하여 과거의 기억을 고스란히 드러낸 작품이다. 필자는 이 작품의 공연제작 과정과 공연을 통하여 비극적인 감정의 고통이 덜어지고 고통스러운 순간의 기억이 긍정적으로 승화되는 치료적인 효과를 가지게 된 것에 대하여 기술하였다. 또 다른 연구 재료는 김천 소년교도소의 15세에서 22세까지의 재소자 20 여명과 함께 한 뮤지컬 공연 제작이다. 6개월 동안 일주일에 한번씩 3시간의 연극 수업을 통하여 그들의 정서적인 변화와 집단의 관계 변화를 볼 수있었다. 이 공연의 제작과정에서는 개인의 기억을 소환하고 집단의 소망을함께 이미지로 만들고 몸으로 표현하며 음악을 통해 자신들의 생각을 전달하는 공연 제작의 전 과정에서 이들 청소년들은 개인의 변화 뿐만 아니라집단 구성원간의 관계의 변화도 감지할 수 있었다. 필자는 본 논문을 통하여 치료적인 목적을 가지고 있지 않은 예술 창작 활동이 어떻게 참여자들에게 긍정적으로 작용하며 상징을 사용하는 다양한방법들이 어떻게 참여자들의 감정을 치유로 이끄는 지에 대하여 기술하였다. 특히 김천소년교도소의 경우 함께한 연구자가 대상관계 이론에 기초한설문을 완성하여 미약하나마 참가자들의 변화를 수치로 담아낼 수 있었다.

In this paper, I have tried to study the inherent therapeutic effect of thetheatrical arts through the autobiographical performance and the groupwork for the performance. The autobiographical performance is a work called It s my birthday today. which was made as graduation work of mygraduate school. This work is a performance created by using the mythicalstructure of a journey in one space using diverse symbolic images andlanguages from past tragic experiences that individuals have hidden andsuppressed. As an artist, this is a work that reveals the contents of an issue byusing symbols of various objects in white and symbols of road signs which isa social promise. I described how the performance itself and it s processrelieved the suffering of tragic emotions and had a therapeutic effect in whichthe memories of painful moments were subsided positively. Another research material is the production of a musical performance withabout 20 inmates from 15 to 22 years old in Gimcheon juvenile prison.During the 6-month period, they were able to see their emotional changesand group-related changes through three hours of theater classes once aweek. Though the production process of this performance, each participantrecalls the memory of his own, expresses the wishes of the group together,expresses them through body, and conveys their thoughts through musicthrough out the whole process. We could also detect changes in therelationship. In this paper, I described how artistic creative activities that do not have atherapeutic purpose can act positively for participants, and how variousmethods using symbols lead to healing of participants emotions.
