The Correlation of Ischemic Score, Electroencephalographic. and Computerized Axial Tomographic Findings in Organic Mental Disorder Associated with Non-Traumatic Cerebrovascular Diseases
- 0
The 29 patients, who were admitted to KyungHee University Hospital from May 1979 to June 1984 under the diagnosis of organic mental disorder associated with non-traumatic cerebrovascular diseases, were compared to clarify whether the clinical manifestations were matched to the EEG and CT findings. The results were as followings; 1. T he p a tie n ts were p r e d o m in a n tly consisted of males (69.0%) (p < 0 .005). The average age at onset was 55.2±11.0 year. The average ischemic score was 10.8 ±2.3, and it was positively correlated with age. Among organic brain syndromes, dementia(41.4%) was the most predominant with the highest ischemic score (p < 0 .0002). 2. The abnormal EEG findings were found in 34. 5% of patients, most frequently in delirium and dementia(50.0% each other). Those EEG abnormalities were not correlated to age at onset, ventricular size and ischemic score. 3. On the CT, cerebral atrophy was seen in 79.3 % of patients, most frequently in organic delusional syndrome(100.096). The age at onset (p < 0 .001) and ischemic score (p < 0 .02) were correlated to the degree of atrophy. The frequent findings on overall CT were consisted of atrophy alone (34.5%), subcortical low density (31.096) and superficial & deep low density (20.7%). The CT findings were not correlated to the age at onset and ischemic score. 4. The CT showed more of abnormal findings: (93.1%) than EEG (34.5%) (p < 0 .0005). The abnormal EEG findings were most frequently seen in superficial cortical low density (100.0% ), and the least in deep subcortical low density (11.1%) (p < 0 .005).
