Schizophrenic and Paranoid Tendency of the Patients with Hearing Impairment

In order to demonstrate objectively the possible relationship between hearing deficit and schizophrenic and paranoid tendency, paranoia and schizophrenia scales of MMPI were administered to 115 patients with hearing impairment.and 39 controls.The results were as follows: 1. The scores of schizophrenia and paranoia scales were significantly higher in the group with hearing impairment than in the control group. 2. W ithin the group with hearing impairment, the score of paranoia scale was significantly higher in the bilaterally impaired subgroup than in the unilaterally impaired subgroup. 3. The scores of schizophrenia and paranoia scales seemed to be increased relatively in accorda nee with severity and duration of hearing impair-ment.
