Criminal acts b y mentally ills are increasing in recent years in our society and have become one of serious social issues. M any problems are waitig to be solved for the management of the mentally ill criminals in Korean setting; the establishment of the mental Health Act, the Governmental care of the chronic mental lilnesses prone to criminal acts and the forensic psychiatric controversies around the responsibility of them. Both the psychiatrist and the lawyer are involved in the process of evaluating and determining the responsibility of the mentally ill criminals. In an attempt to offer psychiatric data, the auth or reviewed records of 253 mentally ill criminals w ho had been referred to the department of neuropsychiatry for psychiatric evaluation during the period from January, 1966 to August, 1982. The evaluation was consisted of psychiatric interviews, application of fu ll battery of clinical psychological tests, collateral informations from the relatives of the criminal as well as psysical and neurological
