Cerebrospinal flu id (CSF) copper levels of 15 male schizophrenics and 10 control subjects were measured w ith atom ic absorption spectrophotometry. The CSF copper levels of 7 chronic or convalescent schizophrenics were significantly lower than those of the controls. Those of 8 acute schizophrenics also showed sligh tly lower levels than than the controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. The relevence of the difference is not clear but further studies are recommended for validation of these findings.
