The authors experienced 3 cases of abuse and intoxication of dextromethorphan HBr, nonnarcotic antitussive agents. A summary of the report is as follow s: Dextromethorphan HBr was supposed to be abused as an euphoriant. The abusers showed toxic symptoms which were similar to those of amphetamine or anticholinergic intoxication syndromes. The symptoms of the abuse and intoxication either disappeared spontaneously or were improved by chlorpromazine in 3 to 6 days.
