CSF copper concentration were measured in 27 chronic schizophrenic patients and 16 normal controls. The schizophrenic group was divided into 3 subgroups haloperid이 group, bromocriptine group, drug-free group一in order to evaluate the drug effect on the CSF copper concentration. There was no difference in the CSF copper level according to subject’s age and sex. The schizophrenic group showed significantly lower CSF copper levels than the normal control (p < 0.05). However, 3 subgroups of schizophrenic group revealed no statistically significant differences in CSF copper level ( F = l. 05, p > 0 .05). These findings suggest the possibility that low CSF copper level in schizophrenia is not due to the effects of the antipsychotic drug.
