To provide quick and convenient measures of a number of relatively independent normal personality variables, primarily as an instrument for research and counseling purposes. The statements in the EPPS and the variables that these state- sments purport to measure have their origin in a list of manifest needs presented by H.A. Murray and orthers. The names are those used by Murray and in addition, the EPPS includes 15 personality variables provides a measure of consistency and a measure of profile stability. The author administered EPPS to the 90 normal adults and the 111 chronic Schizophrenics in order to identify the need structure, tested the mean differences in 15 EPPS variables. The main findings were as follows: 1. The chronic schizophrenia group have shown higher need level in Endurance, Succorance,. Deference variables than normal group. 2. But Intraeeption, Edurance, Change variables, of the normal group were higher than those of the Schizophrenics. 3. Also there was no significant difference of mean value of Achievement, Exhibition, Auto nomy and Affiliation variables between normal group and chronic scizophrenics. The author concluded that the availability of EPPS would be convenient as a instrumental assessment, for the establishment of therapeutic:goal and approach and in the virtue of the reso- cialization of chronic schizophrenics
