Comparing to the number of total and psychiatric inpatients, the number cf psychiatric patients transferred in and out was relatively stable throughout the past seven years. 2. The number of patients admitted via the emergency room was greater in transferred patients than in general inpatients. 3. 83.9% of transfer-in patients were either from the department cf internal medicine or neurosurgery, and 91.3% of transfer-out patients were either to the department of internal medicine or neurosurgery. 4. Before transfer-in, psychotropic agents had been prescribed in over half of the patients during the admission in the other departments. 5. Comparing the psychiatric tentative diagnosis with final diagnosis by the other department, patients with salmonellosis were most freguently misdiagnosed as psychoses or neuroses, of which the hysterical neurosis was most frequent 6. The most frequent psychiatric final diagnosis in transfer-in patients was neuroses or organic brain syndrome. 7. The implication, of these rescets and the prospect, education and training in the field of consultation-liaison psychiatry were discussed.
