This study was attempted to evaluate self-concept in adolescence. The present and future self-concepts were investigated with sentence completion test. Subjects were 1130 adolescents (530 boys, 600 girls) who lived in the rural (209 boys, 185 girls) and the urban communities (321 boys, 415 girls). The results of the study were as follows; 1. Negative responses concerning the concept of the self in the future increased according to the advancing age during adolescence, while negative response relating to the self in the present did not increase by age. 2. In the urban community, negative responses、 concerning the concept of the self in the future were significantly higher in boys than in girls. However, in the rural community, negative responses concerning the concept of the self both in the present and future were significantly higher in girls than in boys. 3. In cases of boys, negative responses concerning the concept of the self both in the present and future were significantly higher in urban boys than in rural boys.
