This study w as undertaken to delineate the melanin contents o f hairs and m orphological changes of related MSH-cells following electroconvulsion (EC) in brown rabbits for 7 days daily. Melanin contents of hairs were diminished continuously from the 10 th day, after the cessation of electroconvulsion, whereas MSH-cells in the pars intermedia of the hypophyses underwent? degenerative changes showing small angular cells with intra-and extra-cellular vacuolization and degranulation of cytoplasm on the 1st and 5th days after EC in the experimental group. After ward, MSH-cells in the pars intermedia appeared to recover their original morphology. The size of MSH-cells was increased gradually, the number and size of intra- and extra-cellular vacuoles were decreased and intracytoplasmic granules reappeared on the 10th day after EC in the experimental group. Histopathological morphology of MSH-cells in the pars intermedia of the experimental group was similar to those of control group on 15th and 25th days after EC.
