This study comprises 38 epileptics treated with Carbamazepine at SNUH. Most of them showed transient leucopenia and neutropenia during the medication. For three patients carbamazepine was discontinued and replaced with other antiepilepic drugs due to significant hematologic toxicity. One showed thrombocytopenia(54,000요mm3), the second one showed pancytopenia-WBG(2.500/ mm3), Hb(10.9gm%), Hct(31%), platelet(36,000/ mm3), and. the last one showed leukopenia(3,700/ mm3) with decreasing tendency of other blood elements. The second case was not available for follow-up and the other two cases returned to normal blood picture after discontinuing the medication. 35 cases of 38 patients showed clinical improvement and over 60% of them showed psychotrophic effects during the medication, but only 7 cases showed electroencephalographic improvement. Electroencephalographic findings had no significant relationship wth the clinical improvements during the medication.
