  • 3

The study is aimed to evaluate the anxiety level of the Korean working adolescents and to find out interrelations between the anxiety state and industrial accidents. In order to achieve this set-goals, questionnaires were finally supplied to a total of 803 working adolescents, aged 14th- rough 21, (224 boys and 584 girls) including the 255 workers with accident (102 boys and 153 girls) and 553 w orkers without accident (122 boys and 431 girls ), coming from 54 companies located in Ssoul and Gyung Sang Bug Do. These questionnaire survey concerning interrelatienship between the anxiety state and industrial accidents among Korean working adolescents were performed by professional interviewers including psychiatrists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses. Data gathered through these instruments have been processed through KIST’s SPSS program . The internal consistency reliability and item inter-correlations have been measured by correlation coefficent and the correlative analysis of individual Self-rating Anxiety Scale scores and incidence of accidents have been derived from the application of multivariate analysis of variance in terms of the individual SAS scores, sex and accidents. From this study, the following conclusions are reached. 1. The average SAS index of the Korean working adolescents was found to be 0. 55 ±0.08 (mala 0.54 ±0.09, female 0.55 ± 0 .0 8 ), which was significan tly higher scores comparing with those reported in the other country (Zung’s study ; Normal control 0 .3 4 ± 0 .0 6 ). 2. The most frequent and serious anxiety symptoms found among Korean working adolescent males and females were restlessness, apprehension, anxiousness, fatiga bility , and headache with bodyaches, while psychophysiological cardiovascular ones such as tremor, faintness and palpitation were found to be insignificant. 3. From the analysis o f the accident rate according to rating categories of each SAS items. More complaints of ‘anxiousness’, ‘fear ’, and ‘trem or, more increased incidence of accident, But if degree of fatiga bility is too high or too low, accidants are not likely to occur, while if moderate, incidence of accident is increased. 4. Through the multivariate analysis of variance in terms of the anxiety state, sex and incidence of industrial accidents, it was revealed that the anxiety state have no significant correlation with industrial accidents in Korean working adolescent males and females.
