THE FOLLOW-UP STUDY OF PERSECUTORY DELUSION IN SCHIZOPHRENICS

In this clinical follw-up study, the author has tried to evaluate the chrpnological change of per secutory delusion and to clarify the psychological meaning of the change. Sixty three schizophrenic patients with perse cutory delusion were selected for this study. The cri teria of selection were as follow: definite schzophrenics with predominant persecutory delusion at the first admission, the cases whose onset was less than one year at the first admission, and who were readmitted after three years aord longer. In acute stage, 49 cases (77. b%) revealed single persecutory delusion, and 14 cases (22.2%) had persecutory delusion mix ad with grandiose contents. Three years later, the number of cases of single persecutory delusion were decreased to 27 cases (42.9%), that of persecutory delusion with grandiose contents were increased to 26 cases (41. 4% )t and that of single grandiose delusion were increased to 8 cases (13.1%). As a whole, total number of 63 ceses with persecutory delusion were decreased to 53 cases (84.1%), whereas that of 14 cases of grandiose delusion increased, to 34 (54.0%). It was evident that persecutory delusion tended to shift to grandiose nature as the time went on. The above tendency was discussed in terms of patient’s psychological function to seek a con ventional way in the symptom formation.
