예술고등학교 음악과 교육과정 국제 비교 연구

An International Comparative Study on the Music Curriculums of Arts High Schools

본 연구에서는 해외 여러 나라 예술고등학교의 음악과 교육과정을 비교·분석하고 그 흐름을 파악하여 국내 예술고등학교 교육과정 개선을 위한 기초적인 자료를 제공하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위하여 7개 국가, 즉 미국, 일본, 영국, 싱가폴, 핀란드, 호주, 남아공의 대표적인 13개 예술고등학교를 선정하여 2013년 9월부터 12월까지 국가별 학교 웹사이트에 소개된 교육과정 문서자료를 활용하는 문헌연구를 시행하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 국제적으로 예술을 위한 목표를 예술을 통한 목표보다 강조함으로써 학생들의 예술적 능력 개발 및 진로개척에 주안점을 두고 있었으며, 둘째, 해외 예술고등학교의 개설전공은 클래식 악기가 보편적이었지만 대부분의 국가에서 재즈 및 실용음악을 또한 강조하고 있었고, 셋째, 음악전문 필수과목에서는 실기와 이론과목의 균형 잡힌 틀 안에서 21세기 예술 인재를 양성하기 위한 특성화된 프로그램을 운영하고 있었으며, 넷째, 많은 학교에서 음악전문 선택과목을 제공하였는데 음악전문 선택과목은 학생들의 폭넓은 흥미와 관심을 채워주기 위한 다양한 이론 및 실기 교과목들로 구성되어 있었다. 분석된 내용을 바탕으로 국내 예술고등학교 교육과정 개선을 위한 시사점이 제시되었다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare music curriculums of arts high schools in different countries, and find out international trends and characteristics of music curriculums. Main findings of this study were the following: First, the educational goals of arts high schools in different countries focused on fostering students`` musical abilities and helping them prepared for the next educational stage or career. Second, not only traditional majors related to the classical music were commonly provided but practical music majors were offered in most countries. Third, based on the balanced form between theory and practice, music core curriculum of arts high schools in different countries consisted of specialized programs, such as differentiated, integrated, and experience based subjects. Fourth, some countries provided various ranges of music electives to meet students`` needs. Recommendations for the improvement of the music curriculums on arts high schools in Korea were discussed.
