Two cases of paradoxical side reaction of perceptual-cognitive disorders to Thiothixene were reported. Side reactions were developed in two recovered schizophrenics who had been given 5 mg of Thio thixene in daily single dose for 4 and 5 day Intensified visual stumuli influx and cognitive confusion lasting for several hours were the main: picture of the side reaction. They described their experiences as following; “Suddenly, I became puzzled because everything was so sharp and vivid in shape and color that I could not recognize it. and I could not understand the meaning of the things that I had seen. ” The experiences were repeated daily in the afternoon during the medication, and disappeared after withdrawal of the drug. The afore-mentioned disorders reappeared by remedication of the drug in each case. Mechanism of the perceptual-cognitive disorders remains unknown. It is suggested that cliniciansshould be aware of such unusual paradoxical sidereaction to Thiothixene.
