The author made a clinical study on the depressive symptomatology of schizophrenics in their convalscence and used PRDSB(The Profile for Rating Depressive and Schizophrenic Behaviors) to assess depressive symptoms. The subjects consist of 40 convalescent patients with 22 acute and 42 advanced cases as control groups. The results are as follows. 1. In general there was a definite improvement in depressive symptoms as other schizophrenic symptoms improve. 2. This study advocates the hypotheses that the improvement of cognitive and behavioral function are in positive correlation with the improve-ment of depressive symptom in convalescent group. 3. There was a low degree of retarded depre—ssion in convalencent group compared with control groups. 4. The recovery rate in depressive mood, anxiety, self-esteem, guilt, work attitudes, and sense of personal future is comparatively low in conva—lescent group.
