Practical Problem of Disability Evaluation in Neuropsychiatric Field

Psychiatric evaluation of disability for the trafic injuries has recently increased in Korea. In this article, principles and practical problems regarding neuropsychiatric evaluation of disability were reviewed and the guidelines were prepared by the author s experience as a consultant to the court Finally, 35 improper certificates which the author reviewed in response to the court consultation were analysed for understanding common errors or mistakes in willing the certificates. The most common problem was the process of evaluation : evaluation of neruopsychiatric disability by neurosurgeon or specialists in rehabilitation medicine without neuropsychiatric consultation or without psychological consultation. Other common problems were a lack of objective proofs, early evaluation, evaluation without proper treatment, a lack of objective description of causality, inadequate admission of after—treatment and caretaker, improper description of life span, etc. Training of disability evaluation and physicians，desriable attitude were duely emphacized.
