In order to evaluate perception of others’ emotion in the schizophrenic patients, videotapes show ing actors’ emotional expressions of various kinds and intensities were shown to 41 male schizophrenic patients, 33 male alcoholics and 30 normal controls and their perception of the actors’ emotion was measured and compared. The results are as follows : 1) The schizophrenic patients perceived the actors unpleasant emotion as less unpleasant than the alcoholic patients and the normal controls. 2 ) The schizophrenic patients perceived the actors neutral emotion as more pleasant than the alcoh olic patients. 3) The schizophrenic patients perceived the actors unpleasant emotion in short playing videotapes as less un pleasant than the a lcoh olic patients and the normal controls. 4 ) A bove results were not related with duration of illness, duration of hospital stay and BPRS score of schizophrenic patients
