The authors studied the function of frontal lobe with a topographic mapping of EEG in fourteen patients with chronic schizophrenia and seventeen normal control. There was a significant increase of delta and theta activities on frontal areas(Fz, F3, C3,F7, F4 , C4 • Fz, F3) in resting state of patients with schizophrenia comparing to normal control. In activated cognitive state, patients with schizophrenia also showed significantly high delta and theta activities on frontal areas(Fz,Pz, F4 : F z, F7, F4, Fs). These results could confirm the hypofrontalism of patients with schizophrenia. Also the clinical implication of hypofrontalism and potentiality of clinical application of EEG mapping system were discussed.
