The authors surveyed neuropsychiatric inpatients admitted to the Sacred Heart Hospital and the Ha- ngang Sacred Heart Hospital, Chungang University,College of Medicine from June 10, 1968 to Septem- | ber 31, 1974. The results were as follows. 1. Of the 3,796 cases admitted during the study period, 2,407 cases were admitted to the Sacred Heart Hospital and 889 cases were admitted to the Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital. Of them, the 1,398 cases (41.8%) were diagnosed. as neuroses, 906 cases (27. 5%) as schizophrenia and 379 cases (11. 5%) as organic brain syndrome. 2. The female was more prominent in numbers of inpatients and male to female ratio was 42.4:57.6. As to diagnostic distribution by sex, it was reve- aled that among male patients, schizophenia was the highest rate (37.7%) and neuroses (27.7%), OBS (17.0%) were the higher rate in this order. Among the female patients, Neuroses was the highest rate (52.3%) and schizophrenia (20. 0%) OBS (7.4%) were the higher rate in this order. 3. In the age distribution, majority of patients were distributed between 30-39 years (28. 9%) but majority of schizophrenia were distributed between 20-29 years. 4. Mean hospitalized duration of psychiatric inpatients was 25. 2 days. 5. The rate of psychiatric inpatients among total hospital inpatients was 7.4%. 6. Socioeconomic status revealed that 42.4% of the inpatients belonged to upper class, 32.6% to lower class and 22. 5% to middle class. 7. 76. 2% of all cases had no history of previous psychiatric admission, and 15.4% were secondary admitted. 8. Among the methods of treatments, supportive psychotherapy with tranquilizer was occupied the highest rate (54%) and the E. S. T. was performed in 10% of all cases and 28.6% in schizophrenia.
