The author made a survey of 11 cases of in-patient of over-sea sailors who were hospitalised at the psychiatric ward of Busan National University Hospital for the past 3 years, from 1972 to 1974 and analysed the results in terms of numbers of patient by year, education, duties, age, purpose of admission, diagnosis, precipitating factors, duration of admission, and financial responsibility to admission fees. Out of 11 mental disorders in oversea sailors, 7 cases were schizophrenics who were all paranoid type, having mainly ideas of references and persecutory delusions, 3 cases were neurotics and 1 case was cerebral malaria. the authors hopefully present these findings for understanding the relationship among sailors, shipping company and industrial disaster insurance company
