The author made a clinical survey of 114 in-patients with organic brain syndromes (OBS) who were admitted first at the psychiatric ward of St. Mary’s hospital, Catholic Medical College during past 3 years from 1971 to 1973» and analyzed the results in terms of several clinical aspects. Results were as follows; 1. The patients with OBS occupied 12. 7% of total patients who were admitted first from 1971 to 1973, and sex distribution made 73 of male and 41 of female. 2. The most common diagnosis was idiopathic epilepsy (14.3%) and was followed by sequelae of <X) intoxication, brain trauma, alcoholic psychoses •and intracranial neoplasm. The most frequent age distribution was the thi~rties (24- 6% of study group). 3. The patients admitted within one month from the time of symptom appearance were 81.4% of study group. 4. The percentage of difference between the initial impression and the final diagnosis was 29. 8%, and depression was the most one of them, 12. 3%. 5. The cases with psychologically stressful events were 20. 2% of study group. 6. The patients who were perspected to be good in prognosis were 43.3%> the bad 53. 4% and the ones who were、dead at discharge were 2.1%, 7. The patients who were transferred to the other department occupied 26. 6% of studied group. I hope the obtained results to be helpful for the further clinical research of organic brain syndromes in Korea.
