The Controversy over Wagner s Antisemitism and Acceptance of the New Wagner - Focused on The Ring of the Nibelungs

이 연구의 목적은 바그너의 반유대주의 논쟁과 악극“니벨룽의 반지”를 중심으로 한 새로운 바그너의 수용에 대한 고찰이다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 바그너가 반유대주의 사상을 담은 이론을 펼쳤던 19세기 독일의 사회적 배경과 바그너의 반유대주의에 대한 논쟁의 양상 및 그 배경을 살펴본다. 다음으로는 서사시 ‘니벨룽의 노래’를 기초로 하여 작곡한 바그너의 악극 “니벨룽의 반지”에 나타난 바그너의 사상을 분석한다. 분석은 바그너 음악의 공적 목적에 근거한다. 이에 악극“니벨룽의 반지”에 나타난 바그너의 사상을 통해 새로운 바그너의 수용 가능성을 제시한다. 이로써 본 연구에서는 다음과 같이 제언한다. 첫째, 바그너의 작품을 미래지향적인 관점에서 다양하고 위대한 문화예술 유산의 하나로 수용하여야 할 것이다. 둘째, 바그너의 작품은 앞으로 미래 사회에 전개될 다양한 매체들로의 전환에 좀 더 적극적으로 활용되어야 할 것이다.

This study aims to investigate acceptance of the new Wagner, focusing on the controversy over Wagner s antisemitism and the musical drama The Ring of the Nibelungs. For the investigation, the study looks into the social background in Germany in the 19th century, when he presented a theory containing Antisemitism, and into aspects of the controversy over his antisemitism and the background to the controversy. Next, his thought shown in his musical drama The Ring of the Nibelungs that was composed based on The Song of the Nibelungs the epic is analyzed. The analysis is based on public purposes of his music. Hence through his thought shown in The Ring of the Nibelungs a possibility of accepting the new Wagner is presented. The study hereby suggests these: First, his works should be accepted as part of various and great cultural art heritage, from a future-oriented point of view. Second, his works should be more actively used for the transition to various media that will be made in the future societies.
