한국에서의 음악과 영어 통합교육의 가능성 및 효율성에 대한 인식 조사

A Survey of the Perceptions on Integrating Music and English Language Instruction in South Korea

본 연구의 목적은 한국에서 음악과 영어를 동시에 가르칠 수 있는 통합교육에 대한 가능성과 효율성에 대한 인식을 조사하여, 구체적인 통합교육방안의 근거를 제시하는 기초 연구로서의 의미가 있다. 이를 위해 음악(교육)분야와 영어(교육)분야 관련 종사자, 그리고 일반 대학(원)생과 학부모들을 포함한 567명을 연구대상으로 하여, 총 28문항으로 구성된 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 한국에서 음악과 영어를 동시에 교육할 수 있는 통합교육에 대한 높은 가능성을 확인하였다. 또한 두 과목의 학습요소가 교육과정에서의 학습 효율성에 직접적으로 높은 영향을 끼칠 수 있다는 인식도 확인하였다. 따라서 이러한 연구결과는 학습대상과 그 발달단계에 따른 체계적인 통합교육방법과 프로그램 개발, 그리고 그 지도 방향에 대한 지속적인 후속 연구와 이를 실행할 수 있는 교육체제의 개선에 대한 필요성을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of South Koreans on integrating elements of music and English language instruction to teach both subjects and to provide the fundamental data for continuing research. A cross section of respondents (n=567) from both disciplines, including music educators, English language educators, college students and a limited number of parents, was surveyed with 28 questions. The results are as follows: (1) A majority (84.8%) of the respondents agreed that the integration of music and English language instruction would be possible. (2) Most respondents believed combined instruction would benefit students learning effectiveness. The data suggest that music educators should explore the ways to synthesize teaching strategies, methods, and curricula from both disciplines to improve competency in both subjects among students at all levels. In addition, future research should help educators practice integrating music and English language educational programs to enhance the educational system of South Korea.
