한국어 교육을 위한 연결어미 ‘-는데’의 의미 기능 연구*

A Study on Semantic Function of Connective -는데’ in Korean Language Education

】이 글은 연결어미 ‘-는데’의 의미 기능을 제시하고 그 의미 기 능간의 차이를 밝히는 글이다. ‘-는데’선행절을 ‘상황’제시의 의미 기능 으로 규정하고 하위 분류로 선행절과 후행절에 나타난 의미 관계에 따라 ‘설명’, ‘뜻밖의 일’, ‘제의’, ‘대조’, ‘기대 어긋남’ 5가지로 분류하였다. ‘- 는데’ 후행절 의미 기능이 ‘설명’인 선·후행절은 [선행절 상황시=후행절 상황시≧발화시]로 구조화되어 [선행절 상황시≧후행절 상황시>발화 시]의 시간적 순서를 보이는 ‘뜻밖의 일’과는 구분됨을 밝혔다. ‘뜻밖의 일’과 ‘제의’는 [시간적 속성],[왜 의문에 대한 대답 가능성],[후행절의 의도성]에서 차이점이 있으며, ‘대조’과 ‘기대 어긋남’은 [교체 가능성], [어휘 구성],[화자의 의식 개입]에서 경계가 있음을 논하였다. 마지막으 로 ‘뜻밖의 일’은 일상생활에서 습관적인 일에 대해 화자가 생각하지도 못한 일이 일어난 사태를 표현할 때 사용되는 반면 ‘기대 어긋남’은 화자 가 의도하거나 예상한 것에 대해 일반적인 것과는 달리 반대되는 상황을 기술할 때 사용된다.

This paper aims to study a grammatical feature of connective ending ‘-는데 and draw the boundary of the meaning functions. It labels ‘-는데‘ antecedent clause as representing ‘situation meaning function. According to the context between the antecedent and following clause it classifies ‘explanation , ‘unexpected event , ‘suggestion , ‘contrast and contrary to expectation with subclassification. It defines that ‘explanation which expresses the meaning function of ‘-는데’ following clause is structured [antecedent situation time=following situation time≧ utterance time] while ‘unexpected event is [antecedent situation time≧following situation time> utterance time]. It discusses that the differences of the ‘unexpected event and ‘suggestion are [temporal attribute], [possibility about answering why] and [intention in following clause] and ‘contrast and ‘contrary to expectation are [reciprocality of the antecedent and following clause], [constitutive vocabulary], [intervention of consciousness]. Lastly it talks on the difference of ‘unexpected event and ‘contrary to expectation . This is used to express disturbance in the usual pattern of events to the speaker s purpose or design while that is to express the unexpected event which happened with habitual behavior in daily life.
