The Significance of Interpreting Temporality and Spatiality in Film Sound

영화의 소리는 화면과 함께하여 시공간성의 해석에 많은 영향을 줄 수 있다. 먼저 소리가 영화의 공간성 해석에 영향을 주는 경우에 대하여 말한다면, 소리는 영화의 화면 바깥에 존재할 수 있으며 그 종류는 실제 화면 밖의 소리, 1인칭 시점이 내는 소리, 독백, 내레이션 등으로 나누어진다. 영화의 배경소음(Ambience)은 화면의 배경 공간을 확장 또는 축소한다. 그리고 소리의 물리현상에 따른 공간특성은 화면의 이미지와 음향효과에 관한 공간의 디자인과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 다음으로 소리가 영화의 시간성 해석에 영향을 주는 경우에 대하여 음악의 역할을 들 수 있다. 영화의 음악은 반복적인 요소들을 가지고 불연속적인 숏들의 진행에 연속성을 부여하여 화면의 시간전개를 연결시킨다. 그러므로 대사, 음향효과는 주로 영화의 공간성 해석에 영향을 주고 음악은 주로 영화의 시간성 해석에 영향을 준다. 또한 영화의 시공간성은 반드시 화면과 소리의 관계를 통하여 나타나는 현상을 가지고 해석됨을 확인하였다.

Sound in film can be of big significance in temporal, spatial analysis. First, when sound is said to be influential to the spatial analysis of film, sound exists outside the film screen in forms such as sound coming from outside the screen, the protagonist s point of view, monologue, narration and etc. Ambience in film can expand or cut down the background space of the screen. In addition, spatial characteristics in relation to the physical phenomena of sound can have intimate connections with the spatial design of the screen image and sound. Next, the role of music can be mentioned along with its influence on temporal analysis in film. Music in film consists of repetitive elements which provide continuity in the flow of screen time within the progress of discontinuous shots. As a result, for most of the time, dialogue and sound effects can be influential to the spatial analysis of film while music effects the temporal analysis of film. Also, it has been identified that temporality and spatiality in film are analyzed by the phenomena risen in relation to screen and sound.
