A Review of the Used Musical Terms Concerning Keys: Centering around Secondary School Music Textbooks

장조(major)와 단조(minor)의 두 기본관계는, 하나는 조표와 관련된 것이고, 또 하나는 으뜸음과 관련된 것이다. 같은조표를 공유하는 장․단조의 중․고등학교 음악교과서용어 ‘나란한조’는 같은 으뜸음의 장․단조를 가리키는 parallel key의 번역어 ‘나란한조․병행조’와 표기가 같다. 그리고 가까운 관계의 조들의 중․고등학교 음악교과서용어 ‘관계조’는 같은 조표의 장․단조를 가리키는 relative key의 번역어 ‘관계조’와 표기가 같다. 이와 같은 중․고등학교 교과서의 ‘나란한조 및 관계조’와 번역어 ‘나란한조 및 관계조’ 간의 두 다른 의미로 인한 혼란에 대하여, 1) 중․고등학교 음악교과서의 같은 조표의 조를 나타내는 용어 ‘나란한조’가 같은 의미의 번역어 ‘관계조’로 변경된다면, 다른 의미의 번역어 ‘나란한조․병행조’와의 마찰을 피할 수 있고, 2) 중․고등학교 음악교과서의 같은 으뜸음의 조를 나타내는 용어 ’같은으뜸음조’ 는 그대로 사용하거나, 번역어 ‘나란한조․병행조’로 대신 할 수 있고, 3) 중․고등학교 음악교과서의 가까운 관계의 조들을 나타내는 용어 ‘관계조’가 같은 의미의 번역어 ‘근친조’ 혹은 ‘근접조’로 변경된다면, 다른 의미의 번역어 ‘관계조’와의 마찰을 피할 수 있다고 제의해 본다.

The basic relation between major and minor keys means that one is related to key signature, and the other to keynote. As major and minor keys sharing the same key signature, “Naranhanjo,” the term used in secondary school music textbooks, is spelled same with the “NaranhanjoㆍByeonghaengjo, the translated word of the parallel key indicating the major and minor keys with the same keynote.” Gwangyejo, “the term used to mean the closely related keys in secondary school music textbooks, is spelled same with the Gwangyejo,” the translated word of the relative key that indicates the major and minor keys of the same key signature. Regarding the confusion resulting from the difference in meaning between the “Naranhanjo and Gwangyejo,” the terms used in secondary school music textbooks, and “Naranhanjo and Gwangyejo,” the translated words, it is suggested (1) to change the “Naranhanjo,” the term meaning the key with the same key signature in secondary school music textbooks, to the Gwangyejo,” the translated word with the same meaning, to avoid the confusion with the “NaranhanjoㆍByeonghaengjo,” the translated word with the different meaning, (2) to either continuously use “Gateuneutteumeumjo,” the term used to indicate the key with the same keynote in secondary school music textbooks or replace it with the “NaranhanjoㆍByeonghaengjo,” the translated word, and (3) to change the “Gwangyejo,” the term used to imply the closely related keys in secondary school music textbooks to “Geunchinjo” or “Geunjeopjo,” the translated word with the same meaning, to prevent the term from being confused with “Gwangyejo,” the same translated word with the different meaning.
