음악의 화성진행이 영화의 장면전개에 작용하는 영향

The influence of chord progressions in music on scene development in film

음악 위주로 진행되는 영화의 장면에서 음악의 형식이 장면의 진행에 관한 구성에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 음악에서는 화성 진행이 음악의 형식을 결정하는 역할을 할 수 있기 때문에 이러한 음악이 영화의 어떠한 장면을 주도할 때는 음악의 주요 화성 진행이 영화 장면의 스토리 진행과 밀접하게 관련되게 된다. 본 연구에서는 장편영화 ‘Immortal Beloved 중 베토벤의 피아노 소나타 제8번 1악장 제시부 음악이 쓰인 장면을 중심으로 살펴보았는데, 음악의 세부 하위 단락의 구성과 영화 장면의 구성이 시간적, 내용적으로 거의 일치하고 있다. 또한 음악의 각 하위 단락의 주요한 화성 진행과 영화의 각 장면의 세부 장면에 관한 스토리 흐름이 서로 일치하면서 시간적으로 전개되었다. 결국 음악의 화성 진행은 음악의 형식을 결정하였으며, 이렇게 결정된 음악의 형식적 전개는 영화 장면의 전개와 일치하는 양상을 보여주었다. 이것은 음악 위주로 진행되는 영화의 장면에 있어서 음악과 장면이 서로 매우 유기적으로 연관되어 구성되어있음을 보여주는 것으로서, 음악과 영상 상호간 유기성의 중심에는 음악의 화성 진행이 그 역할을 하였음을 알 수있다.

In the film scenes which are mainly led by music, the form of the music can affect the scene development in the film. When a music leads a film scene, the main chord progression in the music is closely related with the story development of the scene because the chord progression of the music can determine the form of the music. In this study, the film scenes with the 1st movement exposition of Beethoven s Piano Sonata No. 8 in the feature film ‘Immortal Beloved are analyzed and the sub-scenes of the film scenes are timed to coincide with the sub-paragraph compositions of the music in this film. Also the story development of each sub-scene of the film scenes is timed to coincide with the main chord progressions of each sub-paragraph of the music. Eventually, the chord progressions in the music determine the form of the music, and therefore the formal progressions of the music determined by the chord progressions are showed a tendency to match the scene development in the film. This tendency shows the music and the scenes are very organically related to each other in the film scenes which are led by music, and the chord progressions in the music center on the relationship between the music and the moving image.
